Luminary Academy ("we", "us") runs theluminaryacademy.net, an AI tutoring website. This page explains, in plain language, what information we collect, why we collect it, who helps us handle it, and the choices you have.

The short version: we collect only what we need to run your account and your tutoring sessions. We never sell your information and we do not show ads.

1. Information we collect

When you create an account:

Your name and email address.
Your password. It is stored in scrambled (hashed) form by our login provider; we never see it.
Optional details you choose to add, such as your country or a profile picture.

When you use the tutor:

The questions you type and the tutor's answers, saved as conversations so the tutor can remember earlier messages and so you can return to them.
Notes, assignments and other work you create in your dashboard.
How many sessions you have used this month, so we can apply plan limits.

When you try the free demo without an account:

Your IP address, used only to limit the demo to a few questions per day. It is kept in temporary memory and is not saved to our database.
A small cookie (lum_sid) that lets the demo remember your current conversation.

When you buy a paid plan:

Card details are entered directly with our payment provider, Stripe. They never reach our servers.
We keep the Stripe customer and subscription reference numbers, your plan name and whether it is active.

2. How we use it

To create and secure your account and let you sign in.
To provide tutoring: sending your messages to our AI provider and showing you the answers.
To save your progress, notes and past conversations.
To apply free-plan limits and manage paid subscriptions.
To answer you when you contact us, and to keep the service safe and working.

We do not sell, rent or trade your information, and we do not use it for advertising.

3. Companies that help us run the service

We share information only with the service providers we need, and only for the purposes above:

Anthropic — provides the Claude AI model that writes tutor answers. Your messages are sent to Anthropic to produce a reply. Under Anthropic's commercial terms, data sent through its API is not used to train its models.
Supabase — stores accounts, conversations and notes, and handles sign-in.
Stripe — processes payments and subscriptions.
Railway — hosts the website.

We may also share information if the law requires it, or to protect the safety of our users or others.

4. Children

Luminary is built for learners of many ages, including school students. Children under 13 may use Luminary only through an account that a parent or guardian creates and supervises. Children under 13 should not create an account themselves.

If you are a parent or guardian, you may at any time ask to see the information in your child's account, ask us to correct it, ask us to delete it, or tell us to stop collecting it. Email us at the address below and we will respond promptly.

If we learn that a child under 13 has created an account without a parent or guardian, we will delete that account and its information.

Please remind children not to type private details (such as home address, phone number or school name) into the tutor; it is not needed for learning.

5. How long we keep information

We keep your account information and saved work while your account is open. If you ask us to delete your account, we delete your account, conversations and notes within 30 days. Stripe may keep payment records for longer where the law requires it.

6. Your choices and rights

See, correct or download the information we hold about you.
Delete your account and its information.
Cancel a paid plan at any time from Manage billing in your dashboard.

To make any of these requests, email us. Depending on where you live, you may have further rights under local law; we will honour them.

7. Security

Information travels over encrypted connections (HTTPS). Access to our database is restricted, and each student can reach only their own data. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to protect your information and will tell affected users if a breach occurs.

8. Changes to this policy

If we make important changes, we will update the date at the top of this page and, where appropriate, tell you by email or in your dashboard.
