Terms of Service

These terms are the agreement between you and Luminary Academy ("we", "us") for using theluminaryacademy.net and its AI tutor (the "Service"). By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to these terms and to our Privacy Policy.

1. Who can use Luminary

• You may create your own account if you are 13 or older.
• Children under 13 may use Luminary only through an account that a parent or guardian creates and supervises. The parent or guardian accepts these terms for the child and is responsible for the child's use.
• If you are under 18, please review these terms with a parent or guardian.

2. Your account

Give accurate information, keep your password private, and tell us if you think someone else has used your account. You are responsible for activity on your account.

3. Plans and limits

• Free demo (no account): a small number of questions per day.
• Free account: up to 10 tutoring sessions per month. A session is one conversation.
• Paid plans: Scholar ($29 per month) and Team ($79 per month), with the features shown on our pricing section.

We may change plan features or limits in the future. If a change affects a paid plan you are on, we will tell you in advance.

4. Payments, trials and cancelling

• Payments are processed by Stripe. Prices are in US dollars and may not include taxes that apply where you live.
• Subscriptions renew automatically each month and your card is charged at the start of each billing period until you cancel.
• Free trial: the Scholar plan includes a 7-day free trial. If you do not cancel before the trial ends, the monthly charge begins.
• Cancel any time from Manage billing in your dashboard. You keep paid features until the end of the period you already paid for; after that your account returns to the free plan.
• Payments are not refunded for partly used months, except where the law requires it. If you believe you were charged in error, email us and we will look into it.
• We will give at least 30 days' notice before any price increase on your subscription.

5. Using the AI tutor responsibly

• The tutor is AI and can make mistakes. Check important answers, and do not rely on it alone for exams, grades or decisions with real consequences.
• The tutor helps you learn; it does not replace a teacher, and it does not give medical, legal or financial advice.
• Follow your school's rules on academic honesty. Do not hand in AI-written work as your own where that is not allowed.

6. Things you may not do

• Break the law, or harass, threaten or harm anyone.
• Try to get the AI to produce harmful, hateful or sexual content.
• Share another person's private information.
• Attack, overload or try to get around the limits or security of the Service, or use bots or scripts to access it.
• Resell or share your paid account outside what your plan allows.

7. Your content

Your questions, notes and work remain yours. You give us permission to store and process them only so we can run the Service for you, as described in our Privacy Policy. The Luminary website, design and name belong to us.

8. Suspending or closing accounts

You can stop using Luminary and ask us to delete your account at any time. We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms. Where reasonable we will warn you first. If we close a paid account without good cause, we will refund the unused part of your subscription.

9. Disclaimers

The Service is provided "as is". We work hard to keep it accurate and available, but we cannot promise it will always be error-free or uninterrupted.

10. Limit of liability

To the extent the law allows, we are not responsible for indirect or unexpected losses from using the Service, and our total responsibility to you is limited to the amount you paid us in the 3 months before the problem. Nothing in these terms removes rights you have under consumer-protection laws that cannot be waived.

11. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. If changes are important, we will update the date above and tell you by email or in your dashboard before they take effect. Continuing to use the Service after that means you accept the new terms.
